The Decoding Admissions Story
We have created a radically different approach to the college search and application process. Based on an insider’s understanding of how colleges actually make their admissions decisions, we show each student how to maximize their college options by leveraging their individual strengths and mitigating any weaknesses that may exist in their application. Simply by applying to the right list of colleges, a student could leverage any number of factors that play into the admission process, from their home address to their ethnicity. Similarly, if a student’s standardized test scores don’t accurately reflect the work they have done in the classroom, we can create a list of great colleges where the student’s low test scores (low relative to their GPA) won’t hurt their chances of admission.
We have analyzed colleges’ own admissions data and figured out at which colleges being Asian will help you in the admissions process and where it will hurt you; at which colleges you will get a leg up simply by being a male or by being a female; where you will be a significantly more attractive applicant simply because you are not applying for financial aid. Regardless of your individual circumstances, we can help you find a list of schools that you will love and that want to admit students like you.
The college search and application process is a very stressful time for most families. This stress is caused, in large part, by the uncertainty of where a student will be admitted. Colleges are often intentionally unclear or misleading when discussing how they make their admissions decisions because they benefit from this increased uncertainty. The more uncertain a student is about their chances of admission, the more schools they are likely to apply to. For colleges who play the game well, more applications mean lower acceptance rates and lower acceptance rates mean higher rankings.
By educating our families on what really happens once you submit your applications, we give them the power to approach the process strategically and minimize this uncertainty.
